To the editor:
At the recent town council meeting (Oct. 24), the public was abruptly told we could not speak on an agenda item labeled as a “reconsideration” of the disc golf vote. This was shocking. Reconsideration means reopening a matter; how can it be reopened if residents are barred from speaking?
Volunteers who spent nine months on this project were silenced. Supporters were silenced. Even members of the parks and recreation committee — who were publicly criticized — were silenced.
Whatever your views on disc golf, shutting out the public during an attempted reversal of a major decision is unacceptable. Portsmouth deserves a transparent process, not selective participation.
