Letter: Supporting the shelter, with pride
To the editor:
As one of the original supporters of the Bristol Animal Shelter, I am enormously distressed at the secrecy surrounding its future. I would certainly expect more transparency from the Town and the Town Council. Particularly disturbing is the order, with no accompanying explanation, to remove the cat and bunny, who have spent years at the shelter and are much-loved mascots.
As a former state official (two-time treasurer of Rhode Island) I firmly and unequivocally state that this is an affront to the whole concept of open and transparent government. Animal welfare is paramount to thousands of people in Bristol and we have a wonderful shelter that the town should support with pride.
