I appreciate all those who have their American flags displayed for this historic semiquincentennial year; thank you for showing your patriotism! However, I am dismayed that some are not being displayed correctly.
There is one simple guideline for hanging a flag when it is not on a pole: stars then stripes. The stars are always on the left side, stripes on the right, no matter if it is hung horizontally or vertically. If a flag is hung on a line going east and west, the stars are always on the east.
This is an easy rule to follow; I learned it as a young Girl Scout. Please let others know so that we can have a great Flag Day, Independence Day and Veterans' Day with our flags flying high the stars and stripes way!
