Bishop Hendricken let their bats do the talking as they pounded Townies senior pitcher Ben "Lefty" Hallene for 10 runs in five innings, to win the game one 10-0 and take a 1-0 Division-1 champioship series lead at Rhode Island College on Thursday night.

The Hawks scored  three runs in the bottom of the third inning to break a 0-0 tie. Hallene looked to tire as the game dragged on, but once he was over his pitch count to later re-enter the series, it seemed to be decided that he'd take one for the team. The Hawks then scored one more run in the fourth and six more runs in the fifth to end the Townies anguish and the game under the ten-run rule after five innings. In likely his worst start of the year, Hallene struck out two and yielded ten hits, one walk and ten runs in five innings.

The Townies offense had no-such luck against Hawk's ace, Stephen Maynard, who struck out seven and allowed three hits, four walks and held the Townies scoreless.

The Townies had a chance to strike first in the top of the third inning. Aidan Martins walked to lead off the inning. Gavin Palumbo belted a line drive down the left field line. Martins easily made second base and headed for third, but was beat by the throw and tagged out for the first out of the inning.  Palumbo moved to second on the play, but Matt Correiro and Jamison Sydney both flyed out to end the inning.

The Townies and Hawks play game two on Saturday at noon at RIC.
