Supported by a grant from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts (RISCA), the celebration brings together students, educators, professional musicians, and community performers to showcase the importance of music, the arts, and cultural exchange in public education.

The evening begins with student cultural exhibits, followed by performances featuring Latin American music and dance, including MPHS students performing alongside members of the Rhode Island Wind Ensemble. Following the performances, families and guests are invited to enjoy a complimentary community dinner, free book giveaways, and live Latin dance music by Infusion Evolution.

Organized in collaboration with the MPHS World Languages Department, the event celebrates the cultural traditions of Mount Pleasant's students and families while strengthening connections between the school and the wider community.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
