Trailing 2-1 going into the fourth inning, Westport scored all the runs they would need with a six-run fourth inning Friday to beat Maimondes 13-5 and advance in the Division 4 South Sectional baseball playoffs.

The Wildcats next play Mashpee Monday at 4 p.m. —Mashpee is coming off an easy 16-1 six-inning win over Millis.

It was a fairly low-scoring affair going into that fourth inning as Westport starting pitcher Griffin Lecomte worked to keep Maimondes from building on its 2-1 lead.

But in that fourth, the Wildcats batted through the order and then some to build what would prove to be an insurmountable 7-2 lead.

Westport bats produced ten hits and also profited from seven walks and three hit batters.

Nick Collins drove in three Westport runs while Jay McClure scored three times. Lecomte contributed a key two-run single in the inning.

Maimondes batters chipped away at the Westport lead with three runs in the sixth but Kyle Avila came on in relief to shut down the comeback attempt. Avila also drove in three runs with a single and a double.

By going with Lecomte in the playoff opener, Westport coach Jay Pacheco was able to save ace Dan Shea for the game againt powerful top seed Mashpee.

The coach commended Lecomte on his strong performance — three strikeouts, five walks and just three hits allowed. He also compliment the team for its defensive work.
