TIVERTON — Both victim and shooter say it was an accident, but Tiverton Police and the attorney general continue to investigate a Saturday incident in which a Tiverton woman was shot in the neck by her husband.

The woman called Tiverton Police just before 7:15 p.m.to report that she had been shot in the neck.

Police arrived at 51 Allen Street in minutes and Officers Jason Cobelecki and Cpl. Joseph Wieszbicki gave the woman medical attention after which a Tiverton ambulance transported her to Rhode Island Hospital.

There she received further attention for what later did not appear to be a life threatening injury. She was also able to talk to detectives, telling them that the shooting was an accident.

Her husband, James E. Bradley, told investigators that he was cleaning his .45 caliber Smith & Wesson pistol when it fired accidentally, striking his wife. Police found the weapon on the kitchen table.

Police say they determined that Mr. Bradley was under the influence of alcohol and charged him with possession of a firearm while intoxicated.

Further charges are still possible, police said, as the matter is under investigation by the attorney general’s office and RI State Police as well as Tiverton detectives.

Mr. Bradley was released on bail Saturday pending his appearance in District Court.
