To the editor:

I want to thank all the people who saved my life on April 17.

I want to thank the man on the Tiverton dock who called for help. I would like to thank anyone else who was able to call 9-1-1. I am very thankful to the man who somehow was able to boat over from out on the Sakonnet River to save me when he did. I want to thank the Tiverton dock master who cleared the way for the first responders to get me into the ambulance. I would like to thank the Tiverton Fire Department ambulance medics who got my body temperature up quickly and transported me to St. Anne's Hospital. I want to thank all the nice people at St. Anne's who helped me recover quickly, and the taxi driver who got me home safely. Thank you to anyone along the way who helped in saving my life. I am eternally grateful.

One thing out of many that I learned from this experience is that a life jacket is so very important. It saved me from drowning and kept my body temperature up for just long enough to save me from ultimately succumbing to hypothermia.

Thank you all. Sincerely and eternally yours,

Darian Rivera
