Letter: School foes don’t listen, merely repeat distortions

Again I find myself having to respond to the comments of Bill Reed through a letter. Why is this, you ask? Because Mr. Reed, the spokesperson for the Westport Taxpayers Association, does not want to engage in a conversation regarding the new school in Westport.

This is abundantly clear as Mr. Reed is now repeating himself in his latest letter. What do you do when you don’t like an answer? You ask the question a different way. This seems to be the current trend with the Westport Taxpayers Association.

The lawsuit for the middle school PCBs is a red herring for the Westport Taxpayers Association which is trying to bait the residents of Westport once again with distorted representations. To put it bluntly, no Mr. Reed the middle school is not a viable option. It was explored and rejected as not being economical. Dianne Baron, Esquire, SBC chairperson, and Shana Shufelt, selectperson for Westport, have responded to your inquiry in previous letters. It’s obvious that their answer was disregarded because the Westport Taxpayers Association stands for one position and one position only, a “no” vote. Their self-serving motivation is too obvious to mask in their exhaustive letters.

Mr. Reed’s statement that he is thinking about what is best for our children is disingenuous because his letters are not about children, they are about making repeated inquiries regarding the same issues and ignoring the answers. This is the blueprint for the anticipated misleading and non-factual glossy mailer you can expect to receive from the Westport Taxpayers Association just before the election.

The fact is, a “no” vote does not mean zero taxes. It says “no” to spending $58 million today, because you choose to spend $158 million tomorrow! Anyone who sees how foolhardy this is needs to vote “yes” on February 27 — and bring a friend.
