Joseph D. Fragoza, 84, of Westport passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Care One, New Bedford. He was the husband of Phyllis M. (Martin) Fragoza. They were married for 50 years.

Joseph D. Fragoza, 84, of Westport

Joseph D. Fragoza, 84, of Westport passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Care One, New Bedford. He was the husband of Phyllis M. (Martin) Fragoza. They were married for 50 years.

Born in Fall River, son of the late Antone and Mary (Tavares) Fragoza, he had lived in Westport for most of his life.

Prior to retirement in 1990, he had worked as a truck driver for Cumberland Farms. He was a communicant of St. George Church, Westport. Mr. Fragoza was a member and past president of the Westport Holy Ghost Club. He enjoyed bowling and he played in the Dover Softball League.

Including his wife, survivors include a son, Guy R. Anctil of Florida; a daughter, Catherine E. Anctil of Virginia; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was father of the late Joseph D. Fragoza, Jr. and brother of the late Anthony Fragoza, Ricardo Fragoza and Joan Trafaca.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Tuesday, June 5, 2018 from the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport, at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. George Church, Westport, at 10 a.m.

Calling hours are Monday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.

He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
