Grateful to those who helped my Westport Board of Health run

To the editor:

Thank you to all the voters and supporters of my successful campaign for the Westport Board of Health. It was a great learning experience for me and I met a lot of wonderful people.

I am especially grateful for the guidance and hard work that my campaign committee put in, as well as for the many volunteers who held signs at the polls, went door to door, hosted yard signs and more.

I’d also like to express my appreciation to Bill Harkins for his gracious decision to drop the recount request.

I am eager to get to work with the BOH staff and fellow board members. I also look forward to getting input and partnering with others to work on the many human, animal and environmental health issues facing our town.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
