Elizabeth Ann Fitton, 77, Westport

Elizabeth Ann (Danyluk) Fitton, “Betty,” age 77, of Westport Harbor, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Dr. Richard Fitton to whom she has been married for over 40 years.

Born on a farm in Andrew, Alberta, Canada, she was the daughter of the late George and Nancy (Billey) Danyluk.

Mrs. Fitton was a graduate of the Andrew Alberta High School and the University of Alberta in Edmonton, following which she lived in Montreal for 14 years working for the Canadian Food and Drug Administration.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four siblings, Ken of San Antonio, Texas, Nick of Andrew, Alberta, Dale of Kamloops, B.C., and Collin of Duncan, B.C. and their families. She is also survived by step-daughters, Betsy Cummings, Susan Roth, Polly Culbreth and their families. She was the sister of the late Mac Danyluk.

Betty was an avid bridge player and for many years ran a duplicate game for her many friends. For several years she was the president of the Westport Art Association. She was the former president of the Fall River Women’s Club, was vice president of Adams House (Fall River Home for the Aged) and Bay View for many years and former president of the Charlton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Betty was a member of the Acoaxet Club, the Elephant Rock Beach Club and several tennis groups.

A celebration of her life will be held at her residence in June of this year at a time and date to be announced. Burial is private. Arrangements are in the care of the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place in Fall River. For online registration, please visit: www.waring-sulliva.com

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
