Chester B. Sandborg, 92, Westport

Chester B. “Chet” Sandborg, 92, passed away Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a short illness, with his family by his side. Born in Boston, Chet was a longtime resident of Dedham, Mass., and summered in Westport since 1965, becoming a permanent resident in 1987. He was the beloved husband of Marjorie (Youngworth) Sandborg for 63 years, and the son of the late Wilhelm and Judith A. (Benson) Sandborg.

After graduating from Dedham High School, Chet enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving overseas and receiving two Bronze Stars. Upon completing his military service, he attended Boston Trade School to pursue his career in the plumbing and heating industry. He was a licensed plumber/pipefitter and owner of Chester B. Sandborg Plumbing & Heating Co. in Dedham.

 Chet was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer and enjoyed his retirement to the fullest. He was a member of the Acoaxet Club, the American Legion Post 145, & the VFW Post 843 all of Westport. He was also a lifetime Mason of the Masonic Lodge in the Dedham area.

In addition to his wife, Chet is survived by his children, Janet Locke (husband Steve) of Dedham, Martin Sandborg (wife Valerie) of Westwood, Mass., and William Sandborg (wife Sally) of Fall River; five grandchildren, Jenna Bertelmann (husband Karl), Eric Sandborg (wife Lacey), Laura, Hannah, and Molly Sandborg; two great grandchildren, Hunter Sandborg and Olivia Bertelmann; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Paul Sandborg & Aina Sullivan.
