Charlene R. (Keith) Wood, 77, of Westport, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Arnold Spooner and the late Randall P. Wood.

Charlene R. Wood, 77, of Westport

Charlene R. (Keith) Wood, 77, of Westport, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Arnold Spooner and the late Randall P. Wood.

Charlene was born in Claremont, N.H., daughter of the late Charles Keith, Jr. and the late Katherine (Tatro) Keith and had been a longtime resident of Westport.

She retired from the Town of Westport after 47 years, 27 of which she served as Selectmen’s secretary and ultimately became town administrator. Upon retirement, she enjoyed being a realtor for several years.

She volunteered on the Board of Directors for both the Westport Land Conservation Trust and the Westport Federal Credit Union, served on the Westport Citizens Betterment Committee, as well as other numerous committees and organizations.

She leaves behind eight children: Eleanor Gagnon and her husband Arthur of Somerset, Shirley Wood and her companion MJ of Maryville, Tenn., Glenn Wood and his wife Barbara of Dandridge, Tenn., Donna Pettey and her companion Douglas of Ramona, Calif., Keith Spooner of Westport, Barry Spooner and his wife Christine of Westport, Karen Cook and her companion Albert of Westport and Sue Clancy and her husband Danny of Simpson, Ill.; her brother Charles D. "Dusty" Keith and his wife Pam of Benton, Ky.; her sister Nancy Manley and her husband Allen of Dartmouth; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

At her request, private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Westport Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 3470, Westport, MA 02790 or to the Ronald Desrosiers Memorial Fund, c/o Westport Town Hall, 816 Main Rd., Westport, MA 02790.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
