Anthony A. Ferraz, 81, Westport

Anthony A. Ferraz, 81, of Westport, passed away at Charlton Memorial Hospital on Monday, August 7, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Madeleine E. (DiSanto) Ferraz.

Mr. Ferraz was born in Fall River, son of the late Antone and Maria (dos Carma Rapoza) Ferraz and had been a longtime resident of Westport. He was a graduate of Durfee High School and served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a graduate of UMass-Dartmouth with a degree in Textile Engineering. 

Mr. Ferraz was CEO and owner of the textile manufacturing company, Brownell and Co.,  Inc., Moodus, Conn. Prior to that, he was plant manager of Quaker Fabrics in Fall River for many years. He was a member of the Textile Advisory Board at UMass-Dartmouth for a number of years and presented workshops and lectures to the graduate students of textiles at UMass. Mr. Ferraz completed advance studies in finance in Pennsylvania.

He was a parishioner and a Webelo scout leader at Our Lady of Grace Church in Westport for many years. An avid Red Sox fan, he enjoyed many, many baseball games. For over 20 years, he was always with his faithful companions, Lucky Boy and Black Jack the cat. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

  Survivors along with his wife include his son, Thomas A. Ferraz and his wife Becky (Babcock) of Tiverton; three grandsons: Robert J. Malloy and his wife Christina, Christopher W. Malloy and Eric S. Malloy; three great granddaughters: Elizabeth, Alexis and Isabella; along with many cousins and the Rev. Raymond Robillard.

His funeral, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be Saturday, August 12, from the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Rd., Westport, at 8 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Grace Church at 9:30 a.m.

Calling hours will be Friday from 5-8 p.m.

Interment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.

When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
