Expect to start seeing real improvements along Water Street — perhaps as early as March.

The Warren Town Council is expected to award a bid to a local contracting firm as the town seeks to re-start the Water Street Streetscape project after a winter layoff.

The $632,918.15 bid, the lowest submitted to the town, is from LAL Construction of Bristol. The council is expected to vote on whether to accept it at a special meeting planned for Saturday, Feb. 23. The bid must also be approved by the state DOT.

Warren Town Planner and Interim Town Manager Kate Michaud work covered under the bid includes reconstructing sidewalks in areas where curbing has already been replaced, installing ADA-compliant ramps, resetting bricks in front of the Maxwell House Museum, installing decorative lighting that mirrors that throuhtout the rest of downtown, installing underground conduit for future decorative lighting, and installing new trees.

The work is being funded by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation and RI Commerce. Other aspects of the project, including putting a final asphalt coat on Water and Main Street, is also expected to be done over the spring and/or summer.
