Sunday is looking to be a nice autumn day — perfect for a walkabout.
All of downtown Warren is prepping for Warren’s big day as Discover Warren and dozens of restaurants, art studios, shops and other businesses celebrate Warren Walkabout, from noon to 5 p.m. It’s a yearly festival of all that Warren has to offer, from art to great food, music, shopping, history and the water. There will be live music all over town, artist demonstrations at Cutler Mill and elsewhere, open houses, food and more. The sidewalks and byways should be full of visitors.
If you plan on attending but don’t live downtown, getting there and finding a place to park should be easy. Free parking is available at the Park N’ Ride lot on Franklin Street. From there, you can jump on the Old-Fashioned Trolley that will be bringing people throughout downtown Warren via Main and Water streets, and all the way to the Tourister Mill and back. There will also be Pedi-Cabs available if you prefer to jump in the back. If you are inclined to park and walk you also have options — Hope & Main, which hosts a farmer’s market every Sunday, will be extending its hours. You can also walk along the East Bay Bike Path and visit the studios and galleries at Cutler Mill or cross Railroad Avenue and walk up the hill to Main Street.
Free parking is also available along Railroad Avenue, in the lot behind Town Hall, the parking lot between Child and Market Streets across from the Post Office, as well as at the Town Wharf on Water Street.
Help on Saturday
As the town makes last minute preparations Saturday for Walkabout, Volunteer Warren and the Warren Parks and Recreation Department needs volunteers to complete painting of the pirate ship at the Baker Street Park. Organizers have paint supplies; those who want to help should bring gloves, paint rags and a water bottle. All hands on deck are needed to get the project accomplished and the park ready for Walkabout. If you can help, you're needed at the park Saturday, Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. to noon.
