Warren police logs: Car stops yield drugs, DUI arrests

Monday, Feb. 4

A caller reported being passed by another car while driving on Cutler Street.

A Main Street resident reported cyber-harassment.

A caller reported a car "all over the road" at Central and Child streets.

A caller complained about a barking dog on Wood Street.

A caller reported kids playing on the ice at the bottom of Wood Street. Turns out they were at the water's edge, not on the ice.

A caller from a Market Street establishment complained about a customer who had been there for "an extended period of time."

Tuesday, Feb. 5

Jermaine Raheen Brewster, 36, of Newport, was picked up in Newport on a Warren warrant for domestic simple assault/battery, third offense, domestic disorderly conduct and violation of a no contact order.

Police were called to Child Street for an unruly juvenile.

A contractor working on Bradbury Street reported suspicious activity at a neighboring home. Police found no problems.

Police got a call about an intoxicated woman attempting to get into a car on Water Street. The call came in just after 10:30 a.m.

A caller complained about a litterer on Main, near Mill Street.

Police were called and asked to help keep the police at a Fatima Drive home.

Police dispersed two people from a Metacom Avenue basement after a caller said they should not be living there anymore.

Wednesday, Feb. 6

A bullying complaint came in from Asylum Road.

A Child Street resident reported being harassed by a neighbor.

A caller reported a man on Metacom Avenue acting inappropriately around her daughter.

Police were called to Asylum Road and asked to help keep the peace.

A Beach Street woman reported the theft of a small scooter from her front lawn.

Thursday, Feb. 7

Mathieu CW Gagnon, 20, of Swansea, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, first offense, and refusal to submit to a chemical test, after police pulled him over on Child at Elm Street at 2:08 a.m.

A caller from Metacom Avenue reported that a friend was assaulted by her boyfriend.

Friday, Feb. 8

Police dispersed a drunken man from a Main Street address after getting a call.

A woman called police to speak about her daughter, who she said was in an abusive relationship.

Police were called to Franklin Street just before 7:30 p.m. for a report of kids fighting. Turns out they were just playing.

A Child Street woman called police after discovering that someone broke a table on her front porch and stole two chairs.

Saturday, Feb. 9

Jenny S. Stanzione, 33, of Bristol, was charged with possession of drugs (not specified) after a car stop on Croade Street.

Police were called to Metacom Avenue for a landlord/tenant issue.

A Davis Street resident reported an unwanted woman in the apartment.

Sunday, Feb. 10

A loud music call came in from Metacom Avenue.

Joseph R. Alpalhao, 71, of Swansea, was charged with driving under the influence of liquor or drugs, first offense, BAC .15 or greater, after his car collided with a utility pole on Serpentine Road at 3:53 p.m.

Police got a call about a man walking barefoot on Main Street.

A Main Street woman reported not being able to find her firearm, which she last saw in her safe. She called back six minutes later to report that the gun was in the safe after all, way in the back.

Robert E. Karnes, 59, of 700 Metacom Ave., Apt. 224, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, first offense, and refusal to submit to a chemical test, after police pulled him over at Beach and Hall streets at 6:07 p.m.

A Warren Avenue woman reported the violation of a no contact order.

A Nobert Street driver reported a man banging on his door and screaming.

A caller from Main Street reported a person playing music too loudly in a parked car.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
