Valdemar N. "Butch" Cairrao, 93, of Warren, died Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at the Silver Creek Manor in Bristol. He was the Husband of Mary Cairrao; they were married for more than 70 years.

Butch was born in Bristol, a son of the late Manuel and Maria (Nascimento) Cairrao.

He was a fire fighter for the Newport Naval Base for more than 15 years before retiring 31 years ago.

Mr. Cairrao was a US Navy veteran, serving during World War II. He lived in Warren for 70 years, coming from Bristol.

Butch was a parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Church and a member of the church choir.

He was also a member of the Hook and Ladder Company of the Warren Fire Department since 1972, and the Knights of Columbus Bristol Council #379.

He enjoyed traveling, fishing and ballroom dancing.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Linda Lynker of Warren and he was the father-in-law of the late John P. Lynker.

Butch is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joseph Cairrao, Armindo Cairrao and Bento Cairrao.

His funeral will be held Monday July 2, 2018 at 9:00 am from the Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 500 Metacom Ave., Warren. Burial will be in St. Mary of the Bay Cemetery, Vernon Street, Warren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Calling hours are Sunday July 1, 2018 from 1-4 pm.
