Phillip D. Schub, O.D., age 74, formerly of Warren, RI, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, January 17, 2019 in Phoenix, AZ, after a brief illness. He was born on August 14th, 1944 in West Hartford Connecticut to Tybell and David Schub.

He was a graduate of Mount Hermon School, The University of Pennsylvania, and Pennsylvania School of Optometry. His 50+ year career in Optometry began when he served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. In his long practice in Optometry he owned and managed his own practice, and served on several advisory panels of contact lens companies. He subsequently practiced at three large regional Optometric entities, Opticare in Cheshire, CT, Vision World in Middletown, RI and until the week before his passing, at Nationwide Vision in Arizona.

He is survived by his wife Diane Desmond, his children, Karen (Mark) Epstein, Dava Schub, and Daniel Desmond; his sister, Carole (William) Bernstein; nieces Sharon (Larry) Cohen and Deborah (Peter) Segaloff; and his seven grandchildren, Anna Epstein, Evan Epstein, Lila Epstein, Benna Schub, Aidan Desmond, Devin Desmond, and Dylan Desmond, who all called him Poppy.

Phil’s family wants to especially thank Mayo Clinic for the caring and kindness shown to Phil during his stay in the ICU as well as the care he received during the last twelve years in Arizona.

A Celebration of Phil Schub’s life was held on Sunday January, 20th, 2019 at Temple Chai, 4645 East Marilyn Road, Phoenix. Donations in Phil’s name can be made in memory of Phil Schub to the Mayo Clinic in Arizona, Cardiology Research Program, 13400 East Shea Blvd. Scottsdale, Arizona, 85259.
