Karen Marie Silvia, 58, of Nashville, Tennessee and formerly of Warren, died Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at home.

She was born in Warren, a daughter of Joseph Silvia of Chipley, Florida and the late Margaret (Galinelli) Silvia.

Karen was a medical billing specialist for the HCA Parallon Company. She had been a Nashville resident for over 50 years, coming from Warren.

Karen was a former member of St. Alexander's Parish in Warren.

Besides her father she is survived by her brother, Joseph Silvia of Murpheesboro, TN.; a nephew, Ryen Silvia; and several cousins in Rhode Island.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 12, at Smith Funeral, Memorial and Cremation Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, RI. Burial will follow in St. Alexander Cemetery, Greenlawn Avenue, Warren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
