James J. "Jimmy" King, 81, of Warren, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2018 at his farm on Child Street. He was the son of the late Louis and Rose (Mello) King. He was the husband of Penny Catalano.

As a nationally known drag racer, Jimmy was a principle in the King & Marshall Drag Racing Team who put the Town of Warren on the map and were inducted into the Hot Rod Hall of Fame. Jimmy was also a member of the Warren Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a master mechanic and owner with his wife of JK Automotive. He loved living and working on his farm. A quiet, humble man, he could fix anything that had wheels and an engine.

Besides his wife, he leaves his children, Gina Catalano, Gregory King and Bridgette McPhillips. He was also the father of the late James “Jay” King. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Matthew Holmes, Maci Rose Catalano, Trevor J. King, Alexandra King, Marissa McPhillips and Christina McPhillips. Their latest rescue, Sadie, will miss him as well. Jimmy is finally at peace and will be happily reunited with Jay and companions Weasle, Buffy, Romeo and Jules.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, in St Mary of the Bay Church, 645 Main St., Warren. Burial will be private. Arrangements are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services in Warren.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to Residents United for Furry Friends (RUFF), PO BOX 568, Warren, RI 02885.
