Tigers are playoff bound after tying Classical, 1-1

The Tiverton High School field hockey team appears to be playoff bound after competing to a 1-1 tie with Classical at the high school on Monday afternoon.

Arianna Helger scored for Tiverton to tie the game in the second half. She scored off a pass by teammate Margeaux Souza. Tiverton holds a 6-7-2 record in Division II and the final spot in the playoffs as the eighth seed.

The Tigers strength has been it’s defense with goalkeeper Emily Caraveo and captains Rachel Pare, Sascha Duggan and Aubrie Messenger.

“Emily has been phenomenal. She is really doing great despite being her first year in goal,” said former Tiverton field hockey star and first year coach Lauren Tavares.

Coach Tavares switched things up after the team started the season 0-4. They have now gone 6-3-2 since and have made the playoffs.

The team has progressed. On offense the Tigers spread the scoring around and they have played very tough on defense.

“The new formation that coach Tavares uses is working really well. We are working really well as a passing team and we are communicating more, said co-captain Sascha Duggan.

“I love coach Lauren. She has created a close knit team and that really helps with the communication on the field,” she said.
