WESTPORT — A minute after one caller reported a woman running on State Road near Whites Restaurant in Westport Saturday evening, another caller reported that a woman was on the ground and someone was attempting CPR.

Westport Police and firefighters arrived moments after the second 9:35 p.m. call to find an unresponsive woman.

The victim is a 48-year old Fall River resident. She was transported to St. Annes Hospital in Fall River and did not survive her injuries. Fall River EMS also assisted at the scene

State Road near the Fall River line was shut down to all vehicle traffic in both directions with the assistance of the Fall River Police and Massachusetts State Police. Traffic was diverted for approximately 4 hours.

Westport detective Jeff Majewski said that the vehicle involved did not stop and there was no description of a suspect vehicle, although debris was left on the roadway.

Approximately one hour after the crash was reported, a woman called Westport Police to report possibly hitting a deer.

The caller identified her vehicle and it was located in Fall River. There was damage on the vehicle consistent with debris found at the crash location.

No further information on either the victim or the driver were made available Sunday afternoon.

The investigation is on-going. Westport police are asking anyone with information to contact the Westport Detective Division.

Westport Police were assisted by The Massachusetts State Police Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Unit along with the State Police Detectives assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
