The TTA candidates only seem to have one plan or agenda, take control of casino money to spend

on projects that add maintenance and operating costs down the line to the budget. The only two people

with the right idea for the long run are council members Randy LeBeau and Joan Chabot — use all of it to pay down our over $70 million debt, but they are outnumbered in a vote.

Tiverton pays about $ 5 million a year interest on our debt. They are assuming the casino lasts — many have failed.

Reducing our loan debt, streamlining operational spending won't fix our high taxes overnight. The debt is too excessive. But realistically in 10 to 14 years we could eliminate the majority of it. This would allow us to lower taxes dramatically and still have a cash surplus for road and infrastructure improvements, trash pickup and more.

But not as long as those in charge make decisions based on what makes themselves look good now instead of how it could harm or benefit the town and its people in 20 years or more.

If decision-making is not done with an eye to the future we are destined to fail as a community in debt and overtaxed.
