La Croix: Signs and other Tiverton campaign conspiracy nonsense

Well it seems the political season is in full swing and what’s the political season without good old fashion “mudslinging.” It is particularly rampant on social media (no surprise there) as it’s easy to sit behind a keyboard and spin whatever the flavor of the day is.

I’ve read and seen numerous posts about how the “evil” Tiverton Taxpayers Association (TTA) is trying to erode the fabric that makes Tiverton a wonderful place to live, but the fact is that those very same people accusing the TTA of sinister acts have absolutely no factual basis to their claims - it’s childish and nonsensical at best.

Notice how the social media warriors point to sign stealing or reporting of illegal placement of signs with no clear evidence that it’s happening. If you must take a drive to Portsmouth DPW to pick up your signs, it’s the fault of no one except yourself, know the law. It’s laughable how fixated people are getting on political sign placement because they have nothing else to complain about. The TTA is here to lower your taxes and protect your voice as a Tiverton resident and you should fully support all TTA endorsed candidates.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
