The residents of Tiverton are coming from all four corners to see the recently displayed “Bumble” on display at the high school campus.

“He took us about six weeks to finish.” Mr. Tracy, Tiverton High School’s art teacher explained. The planning started in the beginning of December when the class felt a sense of urgency to get it done before the first big snow fall. Little did they know the amount of snow needed would arrive three months later.

The project came from the 3D Design students working with the wood shop classes under the tutelage of Mr. Phillips. The students designed and built the well known arctic figure by making the head and arms from chicken wire, which the students later covered with paper mache. The adorable monster was then painted with acrylic paint and some faux fur.

“The feet are made of cardboard and Cornelius is a wood cutout that was also painted by my students.” Tracy said.

“We wanted to make something big and make something that would get the attention of the whole school.” said Tracy. After some sketches and some great discussion, the students then made the abominable snowman coming through the snow in the courtyard. The reaction to it throughout the school and the town has been awesome!
The project gave students a real sense of creating dimensional art while also having a ton of fun building it.
