The Trustees of Reservations will host its first “Get a Jump on Spring” greenhouse workshop on Sunday, March 10, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Cornell Farm on Smith Neck Road in Dartmouth.
South Coast Farm Manager Steve Connors will be getting the greenhouse ready for spring and seeding early vegetables and plants into trays. Participants can help with the seeding and learn some practices for starting their own plants for the upcoming growing season.
The Trustees of Reservations acquired the Cornell Farm in 2009 and have been gradually returning the land to vegetable production, a tradition the Cornell family carried on for five generations. Along with the Community Gardens at Westport Town Farm, the Cornell gardens have contributed to more than 20,000 pounds of sustainably grown produce, most of which has been donated to the Westport Council on Aging’s Food For Friends program and the Greater New Bedford United Way’s Hunger Commission.
This event is free for members, and $10 for non members. Space is limited, pre-registration required. Please call 508-636-4693 x103 for information and registration, or email [email protected]
