The Buzzards Bay Coalition has opened registration for its 20th annual Buzzards Bay Swim that swill take place on Saturday, July 13. Swimmers who sign up through Monday, April 15 will enjoy free registration.
The Buzzards Bay Swim is a 1.2-mile open water course across outer New Bedford Harbor, starting at Davy’s Locker in New Bedford’s South End and ending at Fort Phoenix State Reservation in Fairhaven. The swim draws participants of all ages and abilities, including families, swim teams, serious competitors, and individuals seeking a new fitness challenge. Three hundred swimmers are expected to participate in this year’s Buzzards Bay Swim.
Swimmers from as far as Colorado, Florida, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. have participated in recent swims. This year, the Buzzards Bay Swim is again part of the Waterkeeper Alliance SPLASH Series, a national event program presented by Toyota that engages local citizens in water-based activities.
The Buzzards Bay Swim is the Bay Coalition’s longest-running fundraising event. All funds raised from the swim will support the Bay Coalition’s work to restore clean water, conserve natural lands and engage the community in protecting Buzzards Bay.

The Buzzards Bay Swim is a Waterkeeper Alliance SPLASH Series Event, presented nationally by Toyota. The SPLASH Series engages local citizens in recreational use of our waterways to celebrate access to clean water with activities that the whole community can enjoy as they raise critical funds to support their local Waterkeeper organization.
