Ramblin’ Jack Elliott in Portsmouth

Ramblin’ Jack

Common Fence Music welcomes folk legend Ramblin’ Jack Elliott to the gold lamé stage Saturday night. Jack’s ramblin’ ways began at the age of 14, when he ran away from his Brooklyn home to join the rodeo and learned to play guitar from a cowboy. One of the last true links to the great folk traditions and with over 40 albums under his belt, artists such as Johnny Cash, Tom Waits, Beck, Bonnie Raitt, Ry Cooder, Bruce Springsteen, the Grateful Dead and The Rolling Stones have all paid homage to him. In the tradition of roving troubadours, Elliott has carried the seeds and pollens of story and song for decades from one place to another — timeless songs that outlast whatever current musical fashion strikes today’s fancy. Don’t forget your picnic basket.
