WESTPORT — The Trustees of Reservations will host its annual Composting Workshop at the Westport Town Farm on Saturday, September 22 at 1 p.m.  Farm Manager Steve Connors will be joined by local gardening experts, to provide tips and demonstrations for helping to convert those garden leftovers and kitchen scraps into healthful additions to your garden soils.

Healthy soil is the key to strong and productive plants; and fall is a good time to get a new compost pile started, or to bolster the organic matter in an existing pile.

The event is free and open to the public.  Attendees are asked to call ahead to register, at 508-636-4693, ext. 13.

The Westport Town Farm has been the site of the Trustees’ Community Gardens for the past four years, with South Coast Youth Corps and local volunteers helping to raise more than 17,000 pounds of sustainably grown produce.  Most of the food grown in the gardens has been donated to the Westport Council on Aging’s Food For Friends program and the United Way of Greater New Bedford Hunger Commission.

The Westport Town Farm is located at 830 Drift Road, Westport,
