TIVERTON — Bistro 524, a new dining establishment in town serving lunch and dinner — and brunch on Sundays — opened its doors on Tuesday, Dec. 11.
“We’ve had a really warm welcome from the community,” said owner Karen DeLeo, who with her “partner in life,” Steven Osman, the Bistro’s chef, are fulfilling a shared ambition. This is their first joint venture in the restaurant business.
“We brainstormed ideas for restaurants all the time. We literally wanted to own our own restaurant. It’s been our dream.”
Ms. DeLeo is a 1992 culinary arts graduate of Johnson & Wales University.
Mr. Osman has been a chef for 20 years, including at the former Glass Onion (in Middletown), the Canfield House (Newport), and The Stone House in Little Compton.
He is a graduate of the culinary program at Newbury College in Brookline, Mass.
What Ms. DeLeo and Mr. Osman like most about running a restaurant, they say, is that “we can do everything that we believe is the right way to do things, to meet the customer’s needs.”
Ms. DeLeo says customer reactions have been “outstanding. They have loved everything from the decor to the food to the customer service.”
The dinner menu reflects Mr. Osman’s preferences. “I lean more towards classic French,” he said. Dinners feature “half chicken slow cooked in red wine” (coq au vin), “grilled bistro steak” (steak frite) and “Bouillabaisse.” All dishes, he says, have French sauces.
The dinner menu also includes a choice of about eight appetizers (e.g onion soup, roasted garlic, shrimp wrapped in apple wood smoked bacon), salads, pastas (e.g. pappardelle a la bolognese), and sandwiches (e.g. a bistro burger, or grilled veggies & brie).
Bistro 524 is located at 524 Main Road, in north Tiverton, at the same address formerly occupied by the unaffiliated Restaurant 524, which closed its doors last summer.

Brunch is served on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The bistro is closed Sunday night and Monday.
