Annual fish bake
Bliss Four Corners Congregational Church, 1264 Stafford Road, Tiverton, hosts its annual fish bake Friday, Sept. 21. Coggeshall Farm events
Coggeshall Farm Museum hosts Historic Foodways and Hearth Cooking workshops from 3-8 p.m. on Saturdays, Sept. 22 and 29; and Oct. 6, 7, 8, 20 and 27. Explore what it meant to “eat local” in 1790s Rhode Island. Working from Amelia Simmons’ “American Cookery” published in 1796, guests will prepare several “receipts” at the hearth using meat and produce raised on the farm to follow a meal from field to washtub. Wine, food fest coming
The Newport Mansions Wine & Food Festival celebrates its seventh year when it rolls in the City by the Sea Sept. 21-23. With a culinary lineup that includes world-famous chefs Emeril Lagasse and father-daughter duo Jacques and Claudine Pépin, the festival will feature a large variety of international wines, seminars, wine tastings, a brunch, collectible wine dinner and meet-the expert opportunities that will further enhance the guest experience. Clamboil or steak dinner
The annual fund-raising clamboil or steak dinner by the La Bella Sicilia Society is on Friday, Oct. 5, at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish center, 131 State St., Bristol. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6:30. Tickets are $30 and include a three-course meal and complimentary beverage of your choice. Elks host clam bake
The Bristol County Elks will hold its annual Ole Fashioned Clam Bake starting at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7 at the Elks Lodge, 1 Constitution St., Bristol. Featured will be steamed clams, fish, drawn butter, white potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, saugys, corn, quahog dressing and watermelon. Tickets are $28 per person. The Elks will also be raffling off a new 4,000-watt generator; raffle tickets are $5 each. Tickets are available at the lodge and all proceeds benefit Elks charities. Casey Riley, chief operating officer of the Newport Harbor Corporation/Newport Restaurant Group, and Chef Jonathan Cambra from Castle Hill in Newport, will help participants understand the hows and whys of eating in an environmentally friendly way from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18. On Friday October 26, 2012, The Bristol County Lions Club will hold its 16th annual Wine/Beer Festival and East Bay Pizza Challenge on Friday, Oct. 26. The event will run from 6-9:30 p.m. in the ballroom at Linden Place, 500 Hope St., Bristol. Proceeds will fund Ronald McDonald House, Cancer and Children, R.I. Food Bank and local food pantries, Sight Foundation, eyeglasses and exams, holiday food baskets and Adopt a Family programs at Christmas and other local charities. The evening will include wine and beer sampling from the Coastal Wine Trail and the Rhode Island Wine Trail, local wine distributors and brewers from Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Maine culinary tour
Calling all foodies: The nonprofit Barrington Community School (BCS) is hosting a culinary walking tour of Kennebunkport and Lower Village in Maine on Tuesday, Oct. 9. The tour will take a leisurely half-mile walk from Dock Square across the bridge into the lower village as you taste all along the way what it means to be from Maine. The group will visit with shopkeepers and food artisans, taste chowders, crab cakes, cheese and more, all created by local talent using local resources. Following the tour, there will be free time to browse other shops independently. The tour departs at 7:30 a.m. from Barrington Town Hall, 283 County Road, Barrington, and will return around 6 p.m. The cost is $115 for BCS members, $120 for non-members.
