Children’s book week events in Barrington

Spiderwick Book 1Barrington Books will celebrate Children’s Book Week with three blockbuster author events. Children’s Book Week, May 13-19, is the longest-running literacy initiative in the country, with commemorative events held nationwide at schools, libraries, bookstores, and wherever young readers and books connect.

The celebration at Barrington Books kicks off on May 15, from 6-8 p.m. with a special presentation and book signing by bestselling authors and creators of the Spiderwick Chronicles, Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black. The first fifty guests will receive a free, limited edition sketchbook by Tony DiTerlizzi. Now in it’s 10th anniversary year, the there are more than 12 million Spiderwick Chronicles in print, and now
Simon & Schuster is reissuing the books with all-new covers by Tony DiTerlizzi. Barrington Books will have all the new editions on hand at the event, along with several others of the authors’ bestselling titles.

On Thursday, May 16, Mary Jane Begin, author and illustrator of the new picture book “My Little Pony: Under the Sparkling Sea” and many other award-winning titles, will read her new book and do a special My Little Pony drawing demonstration for the kids.

The weeklong celebration concludes on Friday, May 17 from 6:30-8 p.m. with a Middle Grade Authors Night featuring four award-winning children’s novelists: Kimberly Newton Fusco, Lynda Mullaly Hunt, AJ Paquett, and Kristen Tracy. Kimberly Newton Fusco is the author of “Beholding Bee” and two other novels, “Tending to Grace” and “The Wonder of Charlie Anne”. Lynda Mullaly Hunt is the author of the middle-grade novel, “One for the Murphys”, winner of The Tassy Walden Award: New Voices in Children’s Literature.  Ammi-Joan (A.J.) Paquette is the author of “Nowhere Girl” and “The Tiptoe Guide to Tracking Mermaids”. Kristen Tracy, author of “The Reinvention of Bessica Lefter” writes books for teens, tweens and young readers as well as poetry for adults.
