UnknownFilms featuring love, clean water, a blood-thirsty monster and, of course, Buzzards Bay will grace the screen at the 2nd Annual Buzzards Bay Film Festival, Saturday, Nov. 16, at 8 p.m. in Gallery X, 169 William St., New Bedford.

The festival focuses on films made in the Buzzards Bay watershed and offers animation, documentaries, experimental films, narrative shorts, and a selection of the 60-second videos submitted to this year’s Shoot the Summer 2013 Cell Phone Cinema Contest, which ran from May to September.

Highlights of the evening include films by New Bedford artists Lindsay Mis’ and Shane Savage-Rumbaugh,  Fairhaven animator Kirby Allen, and YAP, the New Bedford Historical National Park’s Youth Ambassador Program. Woods Hole’s Undercurrent Productions will present Saving Cape Cod’s Water, which explores the threat that nitrogen pollution poses to aquifers and embayments throughout the region.

The festival will also announce the winner of the Shoot the Summer Cell Phone Video Grand Prize Award, as chosen by popular vote on the Festival’s Facebook page. And the festival’s judges will award the JKB Management and Booking Jury Prize for the best of all submitted cell phone videos and the Fiber Optic Center Award for the best cell phone video by a filmmaker between 13 and 17 years old.

Tickets are $10 each and are available at the festival’s website, buzzardsbayfilmfestival.org. Tickets will also be sold at the door the night of the event. The festival is sponsored by the Buzzards Bay Coalition to promote creativity and communication throughout the Bay watershed.

At 7 p.m., Gallery X’s downstairs doors will open for free admission to “Down Stream,” a multi-media installation by Festival Artistic Director Don Burton that shows the watershed as seen by floating leaves, fish, birds and boaters. “Down Stream” will also be on exhibit after the screening.
