Grant will help protect Prudence Island land

PRUDENCE ISLAND – The Narragansett Bay Research Reserve (NBNERR) hopes to grow in size thanks to a $412,500 grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The grant, which will go toward the purchase of 103 acres of land on Prudence Island for inclusion in the reserve to protect it from future development, was announced

Tour participants Ellen Loew (left) and Ruth Boivin (middle) chat with Maureen Delvine, education coordinator for Narragansett Bay Research Reserve, as they walk along the T-Wharf on Prudence Island last week. U.S. Navy ships once tied up at the pier, which is now used by the reserve for research.

PRUDENCE ISLAND — Ruth Boivin took the ferry over to Prudence Island last week with some trepidation.
