EAST PROVIDENCE — An audibly upset East Providence Police Chief Joseph Tavares during a phone interview Monday morning, Aug. 26, denied having requested Rhode Island State Police intervention into the city. In response to the direct question did he ask for the State Police presence in East Providence, the Chief said, “No. I did not.”
