Serpa throws retirement party

Retired Bristol Police Chief Russell S. "Rusty" Serpa (right) shares a lighter moment with longtime friend and former colleague Robert W. McKenna, assistant dean and assistant professor in the School of Justice Studies at Roger Williams University, during Col. Serpa's retirement party Friday night at the Atlantic Beach Club in Middletwon. Mr. McKenna and Mr. Serpa worked together in the Bristol Police Department during the 1970s, before Mr. McKenna went on to a 21-year-career with the East Providence Police Department. Mr. Serpa was honored Friday by more than 200 family members, colleagues and friends in recognition of his four decades of service with the Bristol Police Department. He had served as chief for 12 years until his retirement earlier this year.
