For over one year, Barrington residents have been reporting car break-ins across town. Early Saturday morning, Barrington Police Patrolman Timothy Oser arrested a West Warwick man who may have been responsible for the rash of car thefts.
At approximately 2 a.m., a Chapin Road resident reported a car break-in at a neighbor's house and provided a detailed description of the suspect wearing a sweatsuit jacket, ski hat and gloves.
Patrolman Oser responded to the area and saw Mr. Medeiros walking down the road. When the police officer got out of his vehicle, Mr. Medeiros began to run away, passing through yards in the neighborhood. Patrolman Oser chased him and eventually apprehended him.
Police charged Adam Medeiros, 35, of 450 Providence St., West Warwick, with two counts of tampering with an automobile, one count of larceny under $500 and one count of resisting arrest.
Later that morning, another Chapin Road resident reported her purse stolen.
Barrington Police Chief John LaCross said the department has made an extra effort to patrol the area with unmarked cars and extra patrols at night. Mr. Medeiros reportedly parked his car at the Shaw's Supermarket Saturday night, Chief LaCross said, and walked to the Rumstick area.
The case is still under investigation.
