To the editor:
In response to the letters written about my daughter, Kate Hall, Kate did not expect to be in this situation. She is not second generation welfare. She is taking responsibility for the situation she is in. She was surprised to find out how little support is out there for somebody in her situation.
I think it took courage to tell her story. She knew the consequences of such an article, but felt her story needed to be told. Kate wants to raise her daughter in Portsmouth, her hometown. She is well aware that may not be possible now.
Kate will take full advantage of what is offered to her to get on her feet and on her own. She was an honor student and captain of the Marching Band's Flag Team, she was going to URI last fall. Things happen in life that we don't expect. Kate has decided to keep her baby. She has chosen the difficult road because that is what she feels is right. She decided to let her story be told because she thought it would help others in her situation.
