Two Barrington homes will receive plaques from the Barrington Preservation Society at its Monday, May 19 annual plaquing ceremony to be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Barrington Public Library. The society will honor the Martin-Wyman House (1883) at 37 Ferry Lane, a two-story Victorian home with a Colonial Revival gabled wing. The Martin family ran the ferry to Warren.
Also honored will be the George H. McGregor Cottage (1908) at 43 Sowams Road. This 1-and-a-half story gambrel roofed cottage with a small balustraded front porch is almost unchanged today, and has had only three owners.
More than 150 Barrington homes have been honored with plaques from the Barrington Preservation Society.
Guest speaker for the event will be Joanna M. Doherty, historic preservation consultant, who will cover the topic "The National Register Comes to Jennys Lane," which includes the background of the nomination of the Jennys Lane area for its recent listing in the National Register of Historic Places and what the designation means for tax credits to homeowners.
The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments follow in the Barrington Preservation Society Museum on the lower level of the Barrington Public Library.
