UMass class will do survey on Rte 6 Route 6

A marketing class at UMass Dartmouth will be doing a survey of residents and businesses on Route 6. The survey will include questions about future commercial development and infrastructure.

Marina Dippel, a research coordinator for the town's Economic Development Task Force, said the students will call businesses and residents based on random sampling.

At a meeting on March 6, several members of the Economic Development Task Force said they would like the students to do some follow-up interviews with business owners in person.

Steve Ouellette, chairman of the task force, said he would like students to gauge public sentiment on installing municipal water and sewer.

Mr. Ouellette said he would also like people to be asked "what type of businesses they want on Route 6."

The UMass marketing students are taking a course on doing surveys. Ms. Dippel said they should be given some flexibility to come up with their own questions. Having UMass students do the research helps ensure an "unbiased" survey, Ms. Dippel said.
