The Tigers improved to 7-2 in the league and all but assured itself a spot opposite second-place Moses Brown in the D-Four semifinals Tuesday, Dec. 2. The Cougars, out of playoff contention, fell to 3-6 in the league.
Logan scored three times and carried for nearly 200 yards to pace the Tiverton attack, which cemented the win with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns. The Tigers, coming off a 27-9 setback to Exeter-West Greenwich that snapped their six-game league-winning streak, will host Central Falls on Thanksgiving Day to close out their regular season slate.
Tiverton outscored the Cougars, two times to one, in the first half to build a 10-7 advantage by the intermission. Logan accounted for the initial tally, a 14-yarder, in the first quarter to put the Tigers on top. North took advantage of a couple of Tiverton penalties to even the score at seven as Phanuel Moise covered two yards for the TD. Just before the break, and as he did in the loss to EWG, Kyle Luderer connected on a field goal to put the Tigers in front to stay. Luderer's 30-yard boot made the score 10-7 Tiverton at the half.
The Tigers tacked on one of their three second-half touchdowns in the third quarter to open a 16-7 edge. In the fourth, Tiverton scored twice before North finally cracked the Tigers' defense for its only other touchdown, a 30-yard catch by John Levin. Butch Byrne, on a quarterback keeper, scored one of the Tiverton TDs. Logan added two to his total.
One of Logan's tallies came after a blocked punt deep in Cougars territory. The sophomore, whose suffered a couple of concussions that have limited his playing time this season, scurried the for the 25 yards on the first play from scrimmage.
