McKinnon summoned to Major Leagues

Little Compton seven-year-old Liam McKinnon will always remember Aug. 2, 2005. That's the night he attended his second Boston Red Sox game.

Prior to the game McKinnon and his father Kevin were watching batting practice from the box seating area when they were approached by an employee of the Red Sox. The employee asked if Liam would like to make the pre-game 'Play ball" announcement over the Fenway Park public address system.

Although dad wished it was him, Liam instead was the one to make the announcement. Father and son were invited to watch Red Sox batting practice from the field and even made their way into the Red Sox dugout prior to his carrying out his role in pre-game ceremonies.

The soon-to-be second-grader at Wilbur & McMahon School stepped up to the microphone and made no mistake with his announcement. His call spurred the Red Sox to a 6-4 win over the Kansas City Royals. Liam is the son of Kevin and Betsy McKinnon.
