BARRINGTON - A Barrington youth was charged with possession of marijuana last week after police discovered drug paraphernalia in the young man's home. Tips from two residents initiated the investigation.
On Friday, Aug. 27, Barrington Police Detectives confronted the 17-year-old for allegedly selling and possessing marijuana. Police said the young man admitted to selling and assisting in sales of the drug, and consented to a search of his home.
Police found pipes and scales items associated with drug use and dealing during the search.
Though no marijuana was found in the home, a residue sample collected from pipes was sufficient for detectives to charge the resident with possession of the drug.
In addition to seizing two scales, seven pipes and rolling papers from the young man's home, a ledger and list of names were also found. Those items are still under investigation.
According to Barrington Police Detective Josh Birrell, the young man and his parents were cooperative with police during the investigation and search.
The minimum sentence the juvenile faces is a prison term of no more than one year and a fine of no less than $200 and no more than $500.
