Portsmouth man died outdoors of unknown causes

PORTSMOUTH — Police await autopsy results to determine what happened to a 55-year-old Portsmouth man who was found dead on Sunday, May 4. Allan Heatherly, of 67 Power St., was reported missing at 4:33 p.m. by his wife, who police said was concerned about his whereabouts when she came home and he was not there.

Police and firefighters searched the area and soon found Mr. Heatherly, not far from his house, in a small stream behind 74 Water Street.

Detective Lieutenant Jeffrey Furtado said police do not yet know the cause of death, but said that Mr. Heatherly "did have underlying medical issues." He added that the stream in which Mr. Heatherly was lying is not very deep.

An autopsy by the state medical examiner's office is scheduled for Monday.
