Former garment worker
Amy M. Ferris, 92, of 2856 East Main Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River.
Born in Newport, a daughter of the late Joseph and Antonia (Medeiros) Ferris, she was a seamstress at Lynn Sports Wear in Fall River and a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.
An organist for 11 years at Our Lady of Hope Monastery in St. Miguel, the Azores, she was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church in Portsmouth.
She leaves a brother, Joseph Ferris Jr. of Portsmouth; three sisters, Elvira Ferris of Portsmouth and Elizabeth Furtado and Laura Amaral, both of East Providence; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was a sister of the late Manuel Ferris, Mary DaPonte, Julia Barbosa and Margaret Rego.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony's Church, 2836 East Main Road. Burial will follow in St. Columba's Cemetery, Middletown.
