Spring honors pile up for East Providence athletes

Eleven athletes with local ties, including a quartet from East Providence High School, were chosen as the elite in their respective sports for their efforts in the 2005 R.I. Interscholastic League's spring season.

Amanda Shattuck, David Valley, Eric Osei and Roman Alferos represented the Townies on the top level of those chosen.

Shattuck completed her brilliant, record-setting career in the pitching circle for the E.P. softball team, while Valley shined for the local baseball nine. Osei and Alferos were standouts on the Townies boys' outdoor troop. All four earned first-team, All-State honors.

Six others from the city's private schools, Bay View and Providence Country Day, received high accolades. Robyn English and Amanda Parker earned their spots from the St. Mary's golf squad. Amanda Alienello also represented the Bengals on the fast-pitch softball honor roll. Three Knights — Ben Clossen, Jeff Eggeling and Chris Eggeling — were tabbed for their toils on the PCD boys' lacrosse team.

Also of note, East Providence's Garrett Medeiros earned his spot on the boys' golf All-State top team competing for St. Raphael Academy in Pawtucket.
