Retired psychiatrist, born in Germany
Dr. Henry A. Cohen, 92, of Fessenden Road, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at Comprehensive Care Center of Plantation Key, Tavernier, Fla. He was the husband of Elisabeth N. Hilton-Cohen.
Born in Frankfurt, Germany, a son of the late Julius and Elizabeth (Rothenstein) Cohen, he lived in Barrington for 33 years and wintered in Key Largo, Fla., for 20 years.
Dr. Cohen was a psychiatrist on the staff at Butler Hospital, Providence, for 15 years. He also was on the staff at the Rhode Island Institution of Mental Health, in Cranston for 10 years before retiring from private practice in Providence in 1976. He also practiced at Veterans' Hospital in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Dr. Cohen was a graduate of the University of Turin, Italy, Class of 1936. He practiced in Italy and Columbia before becoming an American citizen in 1957. He served his residency at the National Jewish Hospital in Denver, Co.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Rene Cohen in Calif.; a stepson, Raymond L. Hilton Jr. of Barrington; two stepdaughters, Jane Kalchik of Michigan and Mary Mendez of Key Largo, Fla.; two grandsons; six step-grandchildren; and one step-great-granddaughter. He was a brother of the late Hilda Friedlaender.
The funeral service was held Tuesday at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, in Barrington. Burial followed in Island Cemetery, in Newport. Arrangements were by the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, Riverside.
