It was quite a weekend for the Seekonk High School track teams as the Warriors competed in the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association's Invitational and Elite Meets held at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury.
Sophomore sensation Molly Beauchemin led the way for the locals, winning the girls' two-mile race Saturday during the Invitational.
Beauchemin clocked a time of 11 minutes, 47.2 seconds to best the field. Bryce Vancleef of Amherst Regional placed second in 11:50.88. Alicia Fallon of Haverhill was third with a 12:03.11.
Sean Beattie had the top performance among the Seekonk boys at the Invitational, running third in the 1,000-meters. The senior finished in 2:40.1. Bruno Piazzarolo of O'Bryant won the race in 2:38.91.
Best of the rest
Three other Warriors had solid results in the boys' meet.
Mark Mariano ran sixth in the 600 with a time of 1:27.4. Tom McDonough of Mashpee won the race in 1:25.9.
In the one-mile race, Steve Creamer clocked a 4:38.7 to place ninth overall. Dan Wang of Haverhill was the winner in 4:31.78.
Alex Gibbons ran 11th in the one-mile race as the Warriors finished in 10:09.71. Jesse Faller of Burlington won in 9:51.54.
Leigh Carden and Steph George represented the Seekonk girls well. Carden ran 19th in the 1,000 with a time of 3:18.51. Christina Kunycky of Marlborough was the winner in 3:11.68.
George placed 10th in the shotput with toss of 31 feet, 8 inches. Melissa Doherty of Barnstable won with a throw of 34'7.5."
Elite results
Things were a bit more difficult for the Seekonk contingent Sunday in the Elite-level meet.
Cassie Teixeira had the highest finish of the locals, placing 14th in the girls' shotput with a throw of 32'5.75." Hillary Crook of Marshfield won with a 38'11.75."
Mike Sweet clocked a 4:48.39 in the mile to place 21st overall. Pat Fullerton of Haverhill was the winner in 4:19.39.
Ben Najas also had the 21st fastest time in the 45-meter hurdle preliminary round with an 8.68. Donte Brown of Bridgewater-Raynham eventually won the title with a 7.71 in the finals.
Of note, Matt Dewey of Catholic Memorial won the two-mile race named in honor of legendary Seekonk track coach Frank Mooney with a time of 9:27.86.
In addition, Ali Smrcina of Falmouth won the girls' 1,000 in a time of 11:20.08.
